Corrections Policy
Africa Capital Watch is committed to accuracy and transparency in our coverage of South Africa and the wider region. Published in English and following a broadsheet standard of careful reporting, we correct significant factual errors promptly and explain those corrections to readers.
How to report an error
If you believe we have published an error, please contact us by either:
- Email: [email protected], or
- Our web form: https://africacapitalwatch.com/contact/
When reporting, include the article URL, a clear description of the error, any sources or documents that support your point, and a contact email so we can follow up. We do not accept corrections via social media as the primary channel; use one of the two methods above.
Internal review steps
- Acknowledgement — We aim to acknowledge receipt of correction requests within one business day.
- Verification — Reported facts, sources and documents are checked by the reporter and an editor. Where necessary, we seek comment from the subject of the story.
- Editorial assessment — Editors determine whether the matter requires a correction, clarification, or no change. Legal or privacy teams are consulted for complex or sensitive issues.
- Implementation — If a correction is required, we update the story, add a correction note that explains what changed and why, and record the change on this corrections page. Substantive changes include factual inaccuracies, misattributions, or errors affecting public understanding.
- Notification — We will notify the person who reported the error (if contact information is provided) after the review is complete.
Minor edits that fix typographical errors, formatting, or improve clarity without changing meaning are made silently and are not individually listed.
Where corrections appear
- On the article itself: A clear editor’s note is added at the top or bottom of the piece, dated and describing the change.
- On this Corrections page: Significant corrections are summarized here to maintain a public record.
- In exceptional cases (legal requirement or safety concerns), an article may be retracted or removed; the reason for removal will be explained publicly where possible.
Timelines
- Acknowledgement: within 1 business day.
- Initial review & verification: typically within 3 business days.
- Publication of correction: typically within 5 business days of receipt, sooner for urgent or high-profile errors. Complex investigations may take longer; we will keep the requester informed.
We value the trust of our readers and treat corrections as an essential part of responsible journalism.
